AAG Development Program Next Generation Aircraft Recovery System The Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) system incorporates turbo-electric power to capture tailhook-equipped aircraft landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier. This advanced technology will replace the current hydraulic arresting system, greatly enhancing overall performance. Benefits of the new system design include:
Curtiss-Wright is currently participating in the System Design and Development (SDD) phase of the AAG program for the US Navy. Production is scheduled to begin in 2009 with four AAG systems per carrier. The system will be retrofit onto existing Nimitz class carriers and forward-fit onto CVN 21 and future class carriers. Complementary technology for the ElectroMagnetic Launching System (EMALs) is being developed for all future aircraft carriers under a separate program in which Curtiss-Wright is also a participant. |
