Rotor Ice Protection System (RIPS)
First technology to enable safe rotorcraft flight in icy conditions

Sikorsky’s S-92 commercial helicopter is the first to be certified by the Federal Aviation Association (FAA) for all-weather flight safety standards using the Curtiss-Wright’s new Rotor Ice Protection System (RIPS) product.  Without this technology, the FAA requires helicopters to be grounded during snow conditions due to the icy build up on blades which creates unstable flight operations.

Curtiss-Wrights RIPS technology senses and removes icy build up on helicopter blades to enable safe flight during severe weather conditions.  This product is quickly becoming a standard feature on Sikorsky’s helicopters, and we expect significant interest from other commercial and military manufacturers.
